Demokrato’s Weblog
Civic Education is necessary to the survival and prosperity of our nationLesson #00 How do I Use this Blog/Website?
Before implementing Democracy Corps in your classroom it is critical that you look through all 16 lessons before beginning. To best use this resource you need to modify the lessons to your classroom and you have to make the decisions necessary to make that happen.
That being said, let’s just into the logistics of using this website.
We will break the website into 4 different areas.
- The Blog
- The Lessons
- The Box
- The Links
1. The Blog:
‘The Blog’ is the left most box on the title page. In this section of the website we will post articles relating to education, civic education, service education, and perhaps even highlight successful schools and programs that are occurring across the country. This is also where we will list news and any other announcements that are relevant to the blog.
2. The Lessons:
The Lessons are the 2nd column on the title page. As you can see these are all listed under the heading Page. These are all 16 of the lessons that you will need to implement the Democracy Corps program. Each lesson will list the purpose, central questions, materials and warm-up activity necessary for that specific lesson. Additionally they will list the downloadable documents necessary to provide handouts for your students.
Example/Explanation of Acronyms:
Lesson #15 has the following documents listed on its page:
- 15.title.png
- 15.sg1.png
- 15.sg2(01).png
- 15.sg2(02).png
- 15.sg3.png
- 15.tr1.png
- 15.tr2.png
- The first number (15) denotes the lesson number.
- The Letters tell you what the page is about.
- title = Title page
- sg = Student Guide
- tr = Teacher Rubric
- The next number tells you which one it is for that lesson. If there are two Student Guides for a page they will be listed as 1 or 2.
- The numbers in (parentheses) tell you which page of the document it is. In Lesson #15 Student Guide 2 has two pages they are denoted by 15.sg2(01).png and 15.sg2(02).png
- The .png just means it is a photo.
Finally, we’ll look at one example to make sure that we understand what all of this means.
03.sg3c(03).png
03. = lesson 3
sg3c = Student Guide 3 c
(03) = page 3 of Student Guide 3 c
.png = photo
Basically we are looking at Lesson #3 and we have a photo of the third page of Student Guide 3c.
3. The Box
‘The Box’ is absolutely critical to using this blog/website and is the third column of four that you will see on the title page. The Box has all of the resources that you need to complete the lessons. The documents listed under the lessons 03.title.png will be found in the box. Simply scroll down until you find the necessary document, click on it and press download. Print it out and you are ready to roll. Some of the documents you will only need one copy of, others you will need multiple copies depending on the number of students that you have.
4. The Links:
‘The Links’ are the fourth and final column on the title page. Here you will simply see links listed to related sites. If you have any suggestions please feel free to post a comment and suggest an addition.
