Students increase their understanding of the political process by experiencing it first-hand as they shadow a government leader for a day or attend a government meeting.

- What are the responsibilities of political leaders?
- How does my local government work?
- What current needs are priorities for my community?
- How does my target issue relate to community priorities?

Warm-up Activity:
Ask students to explain how they learned to ride a bike.
- Where were you when you learned to ride a bike?
- What helped you learn to stay on the bike?
- Did you enjoy riding the bike? If yes, why?
- Are there strategies used when learning to ride a bike that can be applied to learning about the political process and staying involved in it? If yes, what are they?
